Chance

On July 14th 2008 I was driving on Buzzell Road in Dayton Maine. I came upon  a little black dog on the side of the road. I slowed down as I passed just in case the dog darted out. As I passed the dog she then turned and started following my car. It broke my heart to see this dog chase my car. I stopped and got out and the dog came right up to me wagging her tail. She was so very thin and so flea infested that she had severe hair loss. After a few calls she ended up at the Animal Welfare Society in Kennebunk. I could not stop thinking about her and decided to go in and adopt her. The AWS told me that she is about 8 months old and a full blooded black lab. I could not ask for a better dog. I don't understand how people can be so cruel to a helpless animal. I have had her with me for about a week and love her dearly.

Bear

My name is Bear. I am a 12 year old Chow mix who was found on the streets of LA last year by a friend of my mama's. I was quite a mess at that time, but now I'm in my forever home and I'm happy as can be.  My mama adopted me as her first doggy. She's an emergency room nurse and knew she wanted a rescue doggy, and I'm sure she wanted a younger one than me, but frankly I'm so sweet and kind and well-trained and loveable, she couldn't resist me.  Plus I really laid on the sweet, soulful eyes when she met she, and I knew I had her right away...

So about this HSUS Campaign. Mom saw the ad in Bark Magazine and is wondering if you are making stickers of the girl with the ponytail and her doggy (orange background).  She says that looks just like us!!  (It looks just like her, but honestly you don't quite make me look fluffy enough.)  Mom would like to put one on our car and promote the goodness of adopting rescue doggies like me.

Jake

This is Jake.  We adopted him about a month ago from the Humane Society for Seattle/ King County in Bellevue, Washington.  He'd had a pretty rough time wherever he came from and was pretty nervous about being around a lot of people that he didn't know, so he wasn't actually at the shelter when I found him (0n the Internet, naturally).  Instead, he was living with a totally wonderful foster family and their dog Banksie, Jake's best pal.  Since he's been home with us, he's gained about 15 pounds and has become a regular old happy dog.  He loves to fetch and tug and squeak his toys; eat pepperoni, yogurt, potato chips, and expensive cheese; and to hog the bed at night.  Also, he snores and occasionally steals our shoes.

Aspen

Well my story on Aspen is that I work at home and have been thinking about getting a dog for awhile now. I went to a shelter and really had my thoughts on a lab since I've always wanted one. I searched well over 100 dogs from seniors to puppies and when I saw her picture and her name...I used to live in Colorado...that was it. She was transported  with 60 other dogs on a trailer at 4 1/2 months old. I've had her for just a month now and she's a dream dog. She is a mix of lab/bassett hound. Out of the 5 of the litter, she was the only lab-ish size, the rest are the size of bassett hounds. I've attached her original picture as well as a couple others.

Connor

We got Connor from the Norfolk SPCA.  His papers say that he was actually brought to the shelter as a puppy, adopted and then returned when the owner couldn't afford him.   It was such a sad story and he was such a sweet gentle dog that we knew he had to come home with us.  He was top of his class in obedience school and loves going to the dog park in the afternoons to play with his friends.  We've had him a year now and can't imagine life without him.
