Our non-profit arm, the Planet Dog Foundation (PDF), is extremely proud to announce that it has reached the million dollar mark! Since 2006, PDF has awarded over one million dollars in cash grants and product donations to canine service organizations across the country that are helping dogs help people.
A million dollars. We can hardly say the words. Since launching PDF in 2006 with the mission of celebrating and supporting dogs working to help people in need, we dreamed big. We knew $1 million was possible but it felt like it would be a long way off. The first PDF grant cycle, in the Spring of 2006, we gave away a mere $10,203.
We wanted to really “romp the romp” and give our Foundation resources to have real impact on the working dog community, so we committed 2% of EVERY sale to PDF. We wanted to give our customers a more direct way to show support, so we created the Glow for Good Ball which gives 100% of proceeds to PDF. It has been a consistent best-seller since the day it was launched.
The economic downturn hit, but PDF kept giving. We gave $50,000 in one grant cycle, $29,000 in another grant cycle, $62,000 the next. We donated $45,000 worth of leashes, collars and dog toys to shelters one year, 175 donation baskets for non-profit fundraisers the next. After hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes and tornadoes, we gave emergency funds to support Search and Rescue and animal-assisted therapy efforts.
PDF has awarded 101 cash grants to 65 non-profit organizations in 27 states ranging from $500 to $10,000. The grants have been used to help Assistance and Service Dog organizations (44 grants), Therapy Dogs and Animal Assisted Therapy Dog Programs (36 grants) and K9 Search and Rescue, Police, Fire and Military Dog programs (21 grants).
Our grants have funded, in no particular order: guide dogs for the visually impaired; visitation programs for hospitals, nursing homes and rehabilitation facilities; therapy dogs for military personnel suffering from PTSD; wilderness tracking of endangered animals and plant species; bulletproof vests for police dogs; disaster site searches; hearing dogs; medical alert dogs for diabetes and epilepsy; autism dogs; human remains detection for water and land; assistance dogs for wounded veterans; bomb sniffing dogs; mobility assistance dogs; animal assisted therapy for traumatic brain injury and physical rehabilitation; reading dogs and academic support dogs; prison rehabilitation programs; courtroom and therapy dogs for abuse and rape victims; therapy dogs for adjudicated youth; missing person searches; medical funding for retired police dogs; psychiatric service dogs; and fire-accelerant detection dogs.

Your loyalty fueled all of this giving. Your purchases saved lives. Without your support, we have nothing to give. On behalf of the hundreds of organizations we have supported and the thousands of people they have helped, we thank you. We thank you with a million wags and a million sloppy kisses.
